Alburnett council sets budget workshop, reappoints commission members and approves routine contracts

At its Feb. 13 meeting the Alburnett City Council conducted several routine actions and approvals.
The council set a FY26 budget workshop for Monday, Feb. 24, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. The motion was moved by Councilor Sukup and seconded by Councilor Trum.
The consent agenda was approved on the council’s motion. The council reappointed Jim Carver to a five-year term on the Planning and Zoning Commission and reappointed Christina Smith to a five-year term on the Board of Adjustments; both seats had no competing applicants.
The council also reviewed quotes and adopted Resolution 02-22-25-01 awarding the annual fire-extinguisher inspection and maintenance contract to Hawkeye Fire and Safety as the lowest responsible contractor and authorized city officials to execute the necessary agreements. Packet figures for the quotes appeared in the staff report; the council approved the resolution by motion and vote.
Other business included a decision not to renew a sheep-grazing agreement (council cited prior DNR noncompliance notices) and extended discussion about whether to purchase a mower/tractor now or pursue trade-in/split-payment options; councilors directed staff to collect trade-in values and vendor willingness to hold equipment and return with a recommendation in March.
The council adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
