Alburnett reports generator failures during outage; fire department leadership and training noted

The mayor told the Alburnett City Council that during a recent power outage two of the city's three emergency generators failed to start, leaving the lift station and City Hall without automatic backup until staff manually started equipment.
"Two of the three generators failed to start and so the wellhouse and Shop was good; the lift station and the one here at City Hall did not start," the mayor said, describing the problem as a transfer-switch issue. The mayor said a concrete pad for a new generator has been poured and that staff are awaiting a contractor timeline for gas-line work and service.
In written and oral reports the fire department described recent work on emergency response training: Dr. Sagar, the department's medical director, provided SALT triage instruction for mass-casualty incidents and the department is pursuing "alert" active-shooter drills to improve preparedness. The fire department also noted procurement work: a public bid for replacement fire extinguishers received no responses and staff will follow up by phone.
Council and staff publicly thanked Chief Hoover for years of service and congratulated TJ, who the council elected as the new fire chief and will make the appointment official in January.
City staff said two generators are due for service in coming weeks and the transfer-switch issue will be investigated further; follow-up reports were planned to ensure reliable backup for critical facilities.
