Fourth Grade PLC team members Melissa Burroughs, Laiton Ihde, Katie Hoppel and Courtney Hirth presented to the Allamakee Community School District board on Oct. 21 about the instructional benefits they observed from departmentalizing fourth grade.
The presenters said departmentalizing has improved instruction and teacher communication, created additional opportunities to build relationships with students, and offered a gradual preparation for students who later move from a single classroom to a middle-school schedule of multiple periods. The board received the presentation during the regular meeting and no board action was recorded on the topic.
