Lieutenant Sara Hempstead updated the Village of South Bloomfield council on June 2 that the police department has begun summer firearms qualifications and that, in her report, "all of the officers that have shot with the new optics have had perfect scores." She told the council newly installed Motorola radios are functioning well in cruisers and that officers have not encountered the "dead areas" that occurred with the previous Harris radios.
The department also secured an Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) grant of $12,000 to fund the village's Flock camera system for the current year; the transcript reports the grant will cover 100% of this year's Flock camera system costs. Staffing updates included that Officer Flores is in field training with Officer Francis, Officer McCoy has completed field training and is covering second shift, and that new cruisers were delayed to mid‑June due to vendor staffing issues. Chief Maynard was reported to be out of the office for rifle instructor training.
The council received these operational updates as part of the department head reports; no council action was taken on these items during the meeting.
