Select Board members said past concessions had been made to accommodate projects, but they were reluctant to approve more daytime work during the summer because it was harming local commerce.
Members expressed frustration with contractor staging that leaves large stacked concrete barriers obstructing storefronts and with insufficient signage to direct customers to open businesses. The board voted to deny the extended work schedule and directed staff to pursue clearer communication and coordination with the state and the project contractors when work resumes in the fall.
The board acknowledged the state can override local recommendations on state road projects but said its denial reflects strong local opposition and will be part of the record if state permitting proceeds.
