Andrew City Council accepts traffic-safety grant, appoints waste authority representative and approves ordinance codification

The Andrew City Council on Jan. 14, 2024 voted to accept a $5,000 grant from the Traffic Safety Committee to purchase solar speed signs, with the city agreeing to cover the remaining $4,350 needed for the purchase. Council member Williams moved to accept the grant and Jamison seconded; the motion passed with all present voting aye (five members in attendance).
The council also appointed Brian Breedencamp as the city's representative to the Waste Authority. Council member Williams made the appointment motion, Rowan seconded and the motion passed by unanimous vote of those present.
Council member Jamison moved to have ECIA codify the city's ordinances at an estimated cost of about $1,000; Till seconded and the motion carried, again with all present voting aye.
The meeting began with approval of the consent agenda, which included the Dec. 10 minutes, the acting clerk’s financial report and a detailed list of prior and current accounts payable. The financial report lists total revenues of $37,173.93 and total expenses of $22,558.30 for the period summarized in the report.
During public forum Beau Smothers introduced himself as the new representative from Peoples. Todd Treat, a resident, asked about applying for a variance to build a garage; staff said he must submit a building permit and variance request, that letters will be sent to properties within a 200-foot radius, and that his application must be submitted at least two weeks before the next council meeting to be placed on that agenda.
Council business also included a decision to put the city’s blue truck up for sale by sealed bids (Williams will prepare the description and notice), and several routine operational items: Williams agreed to dispose of remaining community books, Till said tables and chairs for the community center would arrive in coming days, and Witt reported the new city truck needs floor mats, seat covers and mud flaps (he was authorized to purchase them) and that the Andrew sign needs a new light.
The council adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
