Wellesley re-enrolls in Vaccine for Children program; health officials report easing flu and COVID activity

At the Feb. 26 meeting, Public Health Nursing Supervisor Ann Marie McCauley told the Town of Wellesley Board of Health that the department has re‑enrolled in the Vaccine for Children program.
"Ms. McCauley stated that the WHD has re-enrolled in the Vaccine for Children program," she reported, and then updated the board that influenza and COVID‑19 activity are trending downward. Dr. Shira Doron, the Board secretary, added that flu activity peaked earlier in the season and has since declined.
McCauley also noted that snow and ice could cause weather‑related issues and said Community Health Coordinator Jhana Wallace will issue a public notice asking residents to be aware of ice and snow hazards. Associate Member Shepard Cohen asked about ongoing communication with EMS and Fire departments regarding types of calls; Health Department Director Lenny Izzo said he will request that information and report back to the board.
The Board also received an update from Wallace that the Community Health Needs Assessment forum must be rescheduled due to weather; Wallace said outreach channels have been used and that many RSVPs have been received. Wallace reviewed activities planned for National Public Health Week, which is scheduled for the week of April 6, 2026.
The board did not take formal action on vaccination clinics or surveillance at the meeting; staff will continue outreach and provide follow‑up information as requested.
