Alton City Council adopts code of ordinances, approves FY2024-25 salaries and OKs Sept. 14 street dance

The Alton City Council adopted Ordinance 889 — the Code of Ordinances for the City of Alton — and passed a personnel resolution setting salaries for fiscal year 2024–25 at its July 16 regular session. Council also approved a street closure for a community street dance planned for Sept. 14 and completed routine approvals of the agenda, minutes, financial reports and bills.
Council Member Jorgensen moved to approve the title and adopt Ordinance 889; Council Member Kleinhesselink seconded. The roll-call vote recorded Jorgensen, Kleinhesselink, Plathe, Frederes and Mulder as voting aye; there were no nays. The Mayor declared the Ordinance adopted and directed the clerk to attest.
Council Member Jorgensen moved to adopt Resolution 24-25, which sets salaries and wages for appointed officers and employees for fiscal year 2024–25; Council Member Kleinhesselink seconded and the resolution passed on a recorded vote with five ayes.
Alton in Motion’s request to close 10th Street between 3rd Avenue and 2nd Avenue for a street dance on Sept. 14, 2024, was approved (motion by Plathe, second by Mulder; ayes 5). Earlier in the meeting the council approved the amended agenda (Mulder/Kleinhesselink), minutes from June 11 and June 26 (Jorgensen/Kleinhesselink), financial reports (Mulder/Plathe) and bills as presented (Kleinhesselink/Frederes); those motions carried by recorded majority votes.
Accounts payable were presented in an itemized list totaling $293,398.77 for July 2024. The council adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
