A board member reported that the annual Muddy Creek cleanup on April 11 removed two truckloads of trash and encouraged more volunteers to participate in future events. Two volunteers recovered $5 during the cleanup, the member said.
The board also heard that a final draft of a Middle Iowa Watershed Management Authority grant is complete and will be used to fund community outreach events — from small meet-and-greets to luncheons — to educate landowners about practices and potential funding for watershed projects. Staff said these events typically run from five to 20 people and can be hosted in varied local venues such as farm barns or lodge halls.
Staff reminded residents that the Parks Department provides supplies (trash bags, gloves) and will collect bagged trash after neighborhood or community cleanups; a recent caller had been unaware of this service. The board encouraged greater outreach so more neighborhoods use the program.
The board also noted routine city activities such as a spring trout release (March 20) that brings community participation; no formal watershed policy decisions were taken at the meeting, and staff said they plan to pursue projects in the watershed over the next one to two years as grant funds allow.
The meeting concluded after administrative items; the board scheduled its next meeting for Aug. 12, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.
