Aplington council approves consent agenda, buys sander and lists 2025 appointments

Mayor Jason Mehmen called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., with council members Jacobs, Matthew Klahsen, Deb Prier, Mike Meyer and Wolff recorded as present and the city clerk listed as absent.
On a motion by Jacobs, seconded by Meyer, the council approved the consent agenda — which included the meeting agenda, the Dec. 10 minutes, the financial report through December 2025 and a list of claims — a motion the minutes record as carried on a roll-call vote of all ayes.
During the public works report, officials said Dumont Telephone and Windstream will continue fiber‑optic work throughout the town. The council approved purchasing a used sander for $1,200 on a motion by Matthew Klahsen, seconded by Deb Prier; the minutes record the motion as carried unanimously.
The pool report noted that dollar‑for‑dollar matching donations have reached $25,000 and that the matching donation has been received, a fundraising milestone for the project.
