City administrator: five North Liberty small businesses awarded $40,000 in Greater IC grants

City administrator Ryan told the council on April 14 that Greater Iowa City’s small business grant program has approved five North Liberty applicants who together have received about $40,000 in funding.
Ryan said two additional applicants were close to completing paperwork and might receive approvals later in April or in May, and Greater IC described three other applicants as early in the approval stage. Ryan added that the Greater IC team will work with the city’s community relations staff to promote awardees through blog posts, social media and before-and-after photos and video when projects are complete.
Council members welcomed the update and noted the program’s popularity; Ryan said the program anticipates funding about 10 applications based on current information but that reallocation would occur if an applicant withdrew or did not spend allocated funds.
