North Liberty Police Department earns state accreditation; council recognizes achievement

The North Liberty Police Department has completed the Iowa Law Enforcement Accreditation Program and was recognized by the City Council on April 14.
Chief Finenga told the council the department pursued a state accreditation process developed by the Iowa Police Chiefs and Sheriffs and Deputies Association: “We applied for a grant, we got accepted, and here we are today now being an accredited agency,” he said, describing the work as a multi-year effort to adopt best practices, update written directives and welcome outside critique.
An accreditation presenter addressed the council, praising the department’s professionalism, transparency and continuous improvement, and noting accreditation provides independent validation that the department meets current professional standards. Councilmembers and staff applauded the leadership team for guiding the process.
Council paused briefly to photograph and congratulate members of the department’s leadership team. The recognition was ceremonial; no formal action beyond acknowledgment was recorded at the meeting.
