Commission schedules July 7 public hearing for utility ordinance after procedural glitch

Anaconda-Deer Lodge County commissioners on June 23 reintroduced ADLC Ordinance No. 282, which amends Chapter 20 (Utilities) of the county code, and set a public hearing for July 7 to correct a procedural omission from the prior meeting.
Chair Kevin Hart said the ordinance had been approved previously but that the required public hearing was not scheduled; County Attorney Morgan Smith and Commissioner Ed Beaudette supported setting the hearing. Beaudette said the ordinance will help the county address repeated problems with utility work and easements — for example, protecting buried fiber optic lines and reducing liability when contractors inadvertently cut utility infrastructure.
No public comment was offered on the ordinance at the June 23 meeting. The Commission listed the ordinance for a public hearing at its July 7 meeting to ensure proper procedure is followed.
