At the start of the meeting the board approved payment of bills for May 22'June 4, 2026 totaling $464,883.63. The vote was recorded as Ayes: Art Jeannot, Tim Markey, Rhonda Nye, Bob Roelofs, and Gary Sauer; Excused: Christina Trigg and Len Mathieu for that specific vote.
The board later adopted Resolution 2026-017 to authorize deferment of winter taxes, including agricultural-exempt properties. Commissioner Gary Sauer moved the resolution, Commissioner Tim Markey seconded, and the measure carried by roll call with all present members voting aye.
Commissioners approved a budget amendment of $251,000 in the Tax Administration 532 Fund to cover class-action unclaimed proceeds litigation payments. The motion (moved by Len Mathieu and seconded by Rhonda Nye) passed unanimously among members present.
The board declared a 2005 Roadmaster cargo trailer and two patrol vehicles (a 2017 Dodge Journey and a 2021 Dodge Charger) surplus and authorized their sale, with proceeds to be credited to the 234 Dive Team fund and the 425 Equipment Replacement Fund respectively. The motion was made by Rhonda Nye and seconded by Len Mathieu and carried on a roll call vote.
On equipment purchases and facility work, commissioners authorized: purchase of a stand-on lawn mower from Ferguson's Fireplace & Stove Center not to exceed $13,578 (mover: Tim Markey; seconder: Len Mathieu); and paving work at EMS Station 3 by Ron Brown and Sons not to exceed $7,612 (mover: Len Mathieu; seconder: Gary Sauer). Both motions carried.
Public safety and fleet items approved included authorization to apply for the Public Safety Academy Assistance Program and to sponsor up to two cadets into a certified police academy facilitated by Northwestern Michigan College (mover: Rhonda Nye; seconder: Tim Markey); acceptance of a federal Marine Safety Program grant for $11,000 from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (mover: Tim Markey; seconder: Len Mathieu); and a $2,263 budget amendment to recognize revenue and related expenditures in the 425 Equipment Replacement Fund following patrol vehicle sales (mover: Gary Sauer; seconder: Bob Roelofs). All motions passed by roll call vote.
The board appointed David Gardner as an alternate to the Construction Board of Appeals for a three-year term expiring June 2029 (mover: Gary Sauer; seconder: Rhonda Nye) and appointed Gretchen Classens to the DHHS Maples Board to fill a seat through Oct. 31, 2029 (mover: Gary Sauer; seconder: Len Mathieu). Both appointments were approved.
The meeting adjourned at 12:22 p.m. and the minutes were later approved June 23, 2026.
