Montebello trustees approve claims, contracts and purchases; set hearing on fencing law

The Village of Montebello Board of Trustees on Jan. 21 approved routine financial and administrative actions, accepted a resignation and set a public hearing on a proposed zoning amendment restricting potentially injurious fences.
The board approved the Abstract and Schedule of Claims dated Jan. 21, 2026, totaling $184,115.67. It separately approved claims for professional fees totaling $11,878.75, an LOC Draw Fund totaling $136,551.53 and ARPA fund claims totaling $11,802.13. Deputy Mayor Stacy Caridi moved each measure; Trustee Bruce Egenhauser seconded and the motions carried as recorded.
Trustees authorized the purchase of a Samsung 65‑inch Smart TV, Miracast dongle, wall mount and installation from Delaney Computer Services for $1,182.95 to enable the Building Inspector to view blueprints on a larger scale. The board also approved continued alarm monitoring services from Hi‑Tech Security Services, Inc., and voted to return $5,571.15 in professional fees to owners of completed projects (a list of addresses and amounts was appended to the minutes).
The board accepted the resignation of part‑time Groundskeeper/Laborer Gavriel "Gabe" Saltzman effective immediately; the position will remain vacant until filled. On chronology, Trustee Bruce Egenhauser recorded an abstention on the approval of the Dec. 23, 2025 minutes; other votes on recorded resolutions carried.
Separately, the Board enacted procedural steps for Local Law No. 1 of 2026, an amendment to Chapter 195 (Zoning) to prohibit potentially injurious fences in most districts. The board designated itself Lead Agency under 6 NYCRR 617 for SEQRA, accepted a Part 1 Environmental Assessment Form, and set a public hearing for Feb. 18, 2026 at 7 p.m.; notices to Rockland County Planning and other abutting clerks were ordered.
What happens next: financial claims will be paid as authorized; Village staff will post required notices for the fencing-law hearing and take steps to fill the vacated groundskeeper post. The Homeland Towers lease remains pending and was continued to a February meeting for further record review.
