Residents urge village action on roadside trash, request traffic signal at Montebello Road and Mile Road

At the Village of Montebello’s Nov. 13 meeting, residents Barry and Marissa Romoff of 8 Highgate Court raised two neighborhood concerns: trash and recycling being left at driveways and in roads, and morning traffic congestion at the intersection of Montebello Road and Mile Road.
Marissa Romoff said trash and recycling have been left in the road and at the ends of driveways “all week long,” that it “brings animals and is blowing all around,” and that recycling is not being placed inside containers. The Board responded that the village employs a litter patrol but that crew cannot enter private property; it further said the Village’s Code Enforcement team conducts daily rounds and issues violations where appropriate. Trustees encouraged residents to contact Village Hall when they observe potential violations so a code officer can be dispatched.
On the traffic request, the Romoffs asked whether a traffic signal could be installed at Montebello Road and Mile Road to address heavy morning traffic. Village Attorney Warren E. Berbit said the village previously pursued a county‑installed signal but those attempts were unsuccessful.
Deputy Mayor Stacy Caridi closed the public comment portion after no further speakers came forward. The board did not take formal action on either issue at that meeting; staff were directed to continue enforcing code concerns and residents were urged to report violations so enforcement can occur.
