Silver Creek Township supervisors approve Monticello Fire contract, suspend driveway ordinance enforcement

Silver Creek Township supervisors approved several administrative and spending actions at their Aug. 20, 2024 meeting, including a new contract with Monticello Fire and a temporary suspension of enforcement for a 2015 driveway ordinance.
Vice Chairman Mike Helman called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. with Supervisors Brandon Geyen, Ryan Nelson and Sandy Forsman present; Chairman Chris Newman was recorded as not present. Clerk‑Treasurer Alana Paumen reported fund balances, including $147,469.20 in the General Fund and $13,772.51 in the township's ARPA fund.
On motions recorded in the minutes, the board unanimously approved routine items: the meeting agenda, minutes from Aug. 6 and the list of claims. The claims audited during the meeting included check 18932 for $555.15; 18935 for $43,683.60; 18939 for $29.95; and 18947 for $3,182.00.
Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved to approve the Monticello Fire contract; Supervisor Brandon Geyen seconded and the motion carried 4‑0. The minutes record no further detail about the contract terms.
The board addressed a conflict between the township's driveway permit process and Township Ordinance 2015‑08‑18. Vice Chairman Mike Helman moved that the township not enforce Ordinance 2015‑08‑18, remove the ordinance from the township website until it can be redrafted, and continue to accept driveway permits without fees until the ordinance is revised. Supervisor Geyen seconded; the motion carried 4‑0.
Under new business the supervisors reviewed a Wright County Code of Ordinances response form related to solid waste and agreed to take up the county form again at the Sept. 3, 2024 meeting. They also discussed remaining ARPA funds and possible uses such as a road project, a new office computer and replacement hall flooring; Supervisor Ryan Nelson will gather cost estimates for those options.
Vice Chairman Helman moved to allow the maintenance department to spend up to $4,000 on a tack trailer to support road work; Supervisor Geyen seconded and the motion carried 4‑0.
The meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m. on a motion by Supervisor Geyen and a second by Supervisor Forsman.
The board did not record any public comments during the open forum portion of the meeting.
