Marion County supervisors approve permits, contracts and roadside vegetation plan; direct disposal publication for Clay Township shop

The Marion County Board of Supervisors on June 9 approved a series of routine business items, including event and licensing permits, contract adjustments, and a roadside vegetation management resolution.
Permits and routine items: The board approved a July 3 fireworks permit presented by Lee Nichols on behalf of the Knoxville Estates Homeowners Association and renewed a 2026–2027 retail tobacco permit for New Star Newton LLC dba New Star Pella at 977 198th Pl., Pella. The board also received and filed the FY25 audit report from Terpstra Hoke & Associates.
Property and contracting actions: With the Junction 92 Road Department project nearly complete, supervisors directed the county attorney to begin the official publication process to dispose of the Clay Township Road Department Shop property at 2073 Pierce Dr., Tracy, noting the parcel adjoins the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency and carries potential legacy landfill liabilities. The board also adopted Resolution 2026-71 approving Change Order No. 3 with RG Construction, LLC, increasing that construction contract by $3,162.50 (revising the contract sum to $595,604.70).
Roadside vegetation policy: On a unanimous vote the board adopted Resolution 2026-70, a Statement of Support to establish an Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management (IRVM) Program per Iowa Code 314.22, directing coordination between the county board, county engineer and IRVM manager on plan creation, monitoring and public participation.
Board updates and adjournment: Supervisors provided brief updates (McCombs: landfill meeting; Jahner: department-head handbook update). The meeting adjourned at 9:51 A.M.
