Giddings council approves FiberLight pole licenses, library repairs and committee appointments

Mayor Pro‑Tem Alan Casey moved to adopt Resolution No. 632‑2026 to authorize the interim city manager to execute a licensing agreement with FiberLight LLC for communications attachments to city poles; Council Member Kevin Rinn seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Council minutes describe this agreement as the final pole‑attachment contract resulting from a pole audit performed the previous year.
Director of Library Jessie Akins presented Resolution No. 633‑2026 recommending the city issue a purchase order to Servpro for library repairs pursuant to Sections 252.022(a)(1) and 252.022(a)(2) of the Texas Local Government Code. Akins said repair work is near completion but the library reopening is delayed while the new carpet is awaited, adding, “we are hoping to move back into the library in August.” The council approved the purchase order unanimously.
Council also handled appointments: it appointed Alma Weiser and re‑appointed Miranda Hilderbrand to the Beautification Committee for 2026–2027, and re‑appointed Dana Lehmann and Jason Haas and appointed John Simmang to the Hotel Occupancy Tax Revenue Advisory Board; those motions passed unanimously. The consent agenda approving prior meeting minutes also passed earlier in the meeting.
City Secretary Andrea Ray announced the Beautification Committee will meet June 15, 2026, and said alley‑sale activity has stopped and will be placed on an upcoming executive session agenda for further discussion.
