Commissioners approve $420,762 replacement of damaged ceilings at Liberty County Jail

Cameron explained the repair option carries no warranty and recommended replacement if the county intends to reuse the building. "...they gave us the option to repair it instead," he said, but added that replacements would better meet standards if the building will be used after the new jail is constructed.
After asking the auditor about available funds (staff reported approximately $3.7 million remained in the jail line, subject to outstanding invoices), the commissioners voted to replace the ceiling at the higher quoted amount. The court instructed staff to confirm outstanding commitments with the auditor and proceed with procurement through the approved contract source.
The replacement motion was approved by voice vote and will be paid from the jail project line; staff were asked to return with auditor confirmations of committed and available balances.
