Silver Creek supervisors address recycling, equipment needs and nuisance complaints

Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen told the board that West Central collected 18.95 tons of recyclable materials from the township during October and that several residents have complained their recycling carts were not emptied on multiple occasions. She also said the MATIT workers' compensation premium of $7,580.00 will be paid at the end of the month.
Maintenance reported that a 134th Street culvert replacement is pending and that the county approved an extension of remaining grant funds for that project; maintenance staff will contact the contractor for an expected completion date. Maintenance also reported receipt of a county grant of $37,259.18 for the Gowan Ave project.
Board members agreed that sharing equipment between townships is allowed if a mutual-aid agreement is signed. A new maintenance truck is expected in December or January; Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved to approve up to $500 to buy new tires for the current truck but "the motion dies," and Supervisor Andy Christensen said he may donate a set of wheels and tires to get the township through in the interim.
During open forum and new business, residents raised several nuisance and enforcement issues. Resident Brian Jones asked the board to take action regarding a neighboring property; a downtown report of a dog running at large prompted the board to request the owner's address and for staff to send a copy of the township dog ordinance. Maintenance will send letters (with photos) to property owners on 121st Street and 114th Street concerning accumulated cars and tires/junk.
Public comment included a brief critique of board voting procedures from Resident Bob Esse, who said, "It was too easy to vote." The board recorded the comments and added some items to new business for follow-up.
Next steps: staff will send ordinance copies and enforcement letters where appropriate; maintenance will convene an early-2025 meeting and follow up with contractors and the engineer on pending road and culvert work.
