Hubbard-Radcliffe board approves school schedule change, security entry and multiple vendor contracts

The Hubbard-Radcliffe Community School District board met May 18 in the Success Room at Hubbard School and approved a series of personnel, procurement and facilities actions intended to prepare schools for the 2026–27 year.
Board member Tracey Rieks moved and Marty Eide seconded approval of the meeting agenda and consent items, including budget and warrant reports, the April 20 minutes and employment contracts for administration, directors, support staff and coaches; the motion carried.
Elementary Principal Cari Teske updated the board on school programs, saying the Mileage Club continues in partnership with Mary Greeley Medical Center, fourth-grade students worked with Calkins Nature Center and Hardin County Conservation to plant a tree, and some third- and fourth-grade students participated in Battle of the Books. Middle School Principal Crystal Reinertson reported that Earth Day activities included visits from Plastics Recycling and Water Rocks! and that Iowa Learning Farms brought its Conservation Station; she also said the middle school will move math classes to a block schedule next year to provide more instructional time and support.
The board accepted resignations effective April 28 from Yevette Jesse and Angie Fisher and approved a contract for Matthew Bolio as a custodian pending a background check.
On district operations, the board approved a Resolution to set a public hearing on the proposed conveyance of personal property described as an education broadband service license; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all five members (Bolson, Eide, Imsland, Nelson, Rieks) voting yes.
The board approved the proposed change to South Hardin Middle School start time and the related transportation plan for the 2026–27 school year, saying the adjustments aim to allow more instructional time in the school day.
In procurement actions, the board awarded the bread bid to Pan-O-Gold Baking Co. and the milk bid to AE Dairy for 2026–27. After reviewing proposals and hearing from Russ Reiter of Denovo Construction Solutions, the board approved Denovo's proposal for $6,500. The board also approved moving forward with a new secure controlled entry at Hubbard at an approximate cost of $50,707.54, depending on whether some parts can be completed in-house; discussion about a secure entrance at Radcliffe was tabled to explore additional options.
The board approved the Audit Engagement Letter with Barr and Company LLC for the FY26 audit and approved a service agreement with Relay for Medicaid Billing Services.
Superintendent Chris Fenster presented certificates for school board recognition month and thanked board members for their service. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Monday, June 15, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. in the Radcliffe School Library and a special meeting for Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. at the superintendent's office in Hubbard. The meeting adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
