County, township outline lengthy process to address Locke Lake outflow

Vice Chairman Mike Helman and the Silver Creek Township Board on Aug. 6 heard from County Commissioner Vetsch and County Engineer Chad Hausmann about options to address the Locke Lake outflow and obtain access to the Town Bridge account to improve water control.
Vetsch and Hausmann said the township’s first step is to hire a consultant to perform a hydraulic analysis. If that analysis triggers a Town Bridge project, engineering costs already paid by the township could count toward the required $10,000 engineering contribution; if not, the township would be responsible for the cost. County funding, they said, is unlikely to be available for at least one to two years, and state approvals could extend the timeline to three to five years before project funds are available.
Resident Johan Massmann urged the board to be aggressive in pursuing the work. The county officials agreed to check how long an engineering study would remain valid for future funding consideration.
The board did not authorize project spending at the meeting; supervisors recorded the county guidance and directed staff to proceed with vetting consultants and options as a next step.
