County work session: condolences, local announcements and committee scheduling

Vice Chairman Bill Winters offered condolences to the family of Bradley Central High School student Brodie King, who died in a weekend automobile crash. Commissioner Tommy Ledford and others recognized the Bradley County Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for recent work; Ledford also announced Tire Take Back scheduled for May 31 at the Bradley County Sheriff's Office. Commissioner Howard Thompson asked for and received an update on a Fire Committee recommendation to explore clearing property at the Minnis Road fire facility; Fire Committee Chairman Mike Hughes said the commission voted to authorize the mayor to solicit quotes, and Mayor D. Gary Davis confirmed solicitations have been issued.
Commissioners also discussed district-level concerns: Commissioner Louie Alford raised questions about Bradley County Schools’ transportation of city students onto county routes and the potential for overcrowding; a colleague clarified that transportation applies only to city students living on existing routes. Commissioner Milan Blake announced Finance Committee meetings on May 30 and June 5 and placed a motion on the June 2 voting session agenda relating to municipal bonds.
The work session adjourned with reminders about the next meetings and no formal votes taken at the session itself.
