Jacobson praised the contract model as providing experienced deputies while saving taxpayer dollars and identified four elements that make law enforcement effective: elected-official support, community support, office culture and competitive wages.
The fire chief reported 37 calls in March, described two structure fires (plus mutual-aid assists), four grass fires, staffing during a snow/ice event and training progress (several personnel completed instructor and officer training). He highlighted a first: firefighters assisted with an out-of-hospital childbirth and said the department will recognize personnel in a forthcoming council meeting.
Council thanked both departments and asked follow-up questions about mutual-aid responses and emergency routing during nearby construction.
