Don, speaking as a nearby neighbor, told the commission he testified at an Ocean Township zoning board hearing after a lakeside lot had trees removed and the board approved a variance to allow a seven-bedroom house.
"I testified as Don Brockl, neighbor. I literally I got noticed. I'm within 200 feet of the project," Don said, and added he did not speak on behalf of the commission at the zoning hearing.
Don said he will request all paperwork related to the zoning decision and review it with staff. "I might have a motion for you at next meeting to do something about it but right now I'm just trying to get the data together and show it to Steve," he said.
Commissioners expressed frustration with the zoning board's decision and said they want to be in the loop on shoreline waivers or grant decisions that could affect the lake. No formal action was taken at the June meeting; Don said the issue will be raised with the commissioner at an upcoming meeting and could appear as a motion at the July 2 session.
The commission did not provide the zoning board's formal documents during the meeting; members asked staff to obtain the records before any formal commission action.
