Karen McCloskey appointed as Littleton FINCOM school representative

The Littleton School Committee on June 25 unanimously appointed Karen McCloskey as the FINCOM (finance committee) school representative for a three-year term ending June 2029. The committee voted by roll call after McCloskey introduced herself and described her finance background and volunteer work on the town’s charter committee.

McCloskey told members she responded to an outreach email seeking volunteers and said her prior work in financial planning and analysis makes her comfortable reviewing budgets, learning local mechanics in a first cycle and then shifting toward planning and setting priorities. "Transparency is the first thing that comes to mind," she said when asked how public budgeting differs from private-sector budgeting, adding that public allocations require clearer documentation and explanation so residents understand changes.

Committee members welcomed her candidacy. "Your background being a controller for a public company and your charter committee experience is a phenomenal fit," said Sean. Janine Wood thanked McCloskey for stepping forward and asked how she would approach stakeholder engagement; McCloskey said repeated outreach (newsletters and targeted education) would be needed to draw attention to budget issues.

A motion to appoint McCloskey was moved and seconded and carried on a roll call vote (Justin McCarthy, Janine Wood, Annalise Taber, Sean, Elaine Sandleman voting in the affirmative). The Chair welcomed McCloskey and the committee said it looked forward to working with her.

The appointment fills the seat being vacated by Mike Pru and will run July 2026 through June 2029.
