Huxley gets up to $2.1M in RISE funds; council favors roundabout for 560th Street project

City Administrator David Haugland told the Huxley City Council on Jan. 13 that the city had been awarded up to $2.1 million in RISE funding to pave newly annexed 560th Street and pay for intersection improvements at 210/560th Street.
Haugland said staff determined a roundabout would be less expensive than adding a turning lane. He said the next steps are to meet with adjacent property owners to obtain some right-of-way; he noted there will be no disturbance to the existing cemetery in the area.
Haugland said an annexation application for the property at 560th and 1st Street will be presented to the City Development Board on Feb. 11. He also announced an open house for elected officials, city staff and HDC members at Finski’s prior to the Jan. 27 council meeting at 5:00 p.m.
Council Member Roberts asked about other possible roundabout sites; staff identified three additional locations that have been discussed: Highways 69/210, Highway 69/560th Street, and 560th/1st Streets. Council Member Mulder raised separate public-works items, asking Public Works Director Jeff Peterson to check on removal of a Main Street sign.
The council did not take a final construction decision at the meeting. Haugland’s timeline indicates the annexation and right-of-way discussions are next steps before design and bidding.
