The Nowthen Planning & Zoning Commission interviewed five candidates for two openings on the planning and zoning commission and voted to recommend two finalists to the city council.
The body conducted a series of timed interviews; candidates described backgrounds in construction, planning, human resources, bookkeeping and local government, and emphasized qualities they said are important for commissioners: listening, research, teamwork, and adherence to ordinances. One candidate, who identified himself as Pil, described an engineering and construction background and said he wants to help ‘‘build a better future’’ for the community. Another, Joseph, said his management experience would help with research and communication.
After interviewing all applicants and discussing strengths and readiness, commissioners compared experience and fit. By consensus and a subsequent motion, the commission recommended Jeff as the first choice and Michael as the second choice to the city council. The recommendation will be forwarded to council for final appointment consideration.
Commissioners noted broad interest in serving and said candidates who were not selected may reapply for future vacancies.
