Statham City Council unanimously approves permits, amends business code and rezones parcel; rejects alert-system bids

STATHAM, Ga. — The Statham City Council unanimously approved a slate of routine and land-use items and rejected bids for a public alert system during its Oct. 21 regular meeting.
Councilmembers approved the Oct. 7 and Oct. 15 meeting minutes by voice vote after a motion from Councilmember Bogenrieder and a second from Councilmember Terilli. The council then approved an Application for a Distance Waiver Permit for Fajita Mex Grill after a motion from Councilmember Penn and a second from Councilmember Patterson; the motion passed on a 5-0 vote.
Under agenda item IV.2, the council considered procurement for the Statham Alert System. Councilmember Bogenrieder moved — and Councilmember Terilli seconded — to reject all bids received; the council voted 5-0 to reject the bids, pausing the current procurement process.
The council also adopted amendments to the municipal business license code. Councilmember Patterson moved to approve changes that adopt section 1, delete sections 2 and 3, and renumber existing sections so that section 4 becomes section 2 and section 5 becomes section 3; Councilmember Bogenrieder seconded. The amendment passed unanimously.
On zoning, Councilmember Penn moved to approve rezoning application R-25-01 for Tax Parcel ST06A 106, changing the parcel’s zoning from SR-1 to HB subject to conditions. The council approved a list of prohibited uses as part of the rezoning conditions: pawn shops/pawnbrokers; tattoo studios; vapor bars or lounges; gasoline service stations; convenience stores with or without fuel pumps; and the sale of tobacco, vape, CBD, or similar products. Councilmember Terilli seconded the motion, which passed 5-0.
Councilmember Patterson moved to adjourn; Councilmember Burnette seconded, and the council adjourned at 6:38 p.m.
Meeting attendance included Mayor Krause and Councilmembers Terilli, Bogenrieder, Patterson, Penn and Burnette. City Attorney Jody Campbell and City Clerk Nicole Sapp were listed as present; City Administrator Cheryl Venable was absent.
