Waterford Board of Finance approves FY 2026–27 departmental budgets, withdraws proposed cut to Planning & Zoning

Chairman Glenn Patterson called the Waterford Board of Finance budget hearing to order at 7:00 p.m. March 9 in the Town Hall auditorium. The board established a quorum and moved to expedite the meeting by considering budget requests without separate motions for each line.
Committee member Bill Sheehan moved and Committee member Joseph Filippetti seconded a standing motion to consider budgets en bloc to speed the process; the board approved the procedure 5-0-0 and designated Committee member Ann Peabody to make motions on individual budget lines with Committee member Robert Tuneski to second.
Using that procedure, the board approved the Economic Development Commission FY 2026–27 request of $25,407 and the Conservation Commission request of $18,250; both votes were 6-0-0. Chairman Glenn Patterson then proposed a $25,000 reduction to the Planning and Zoning budget pending the Economic Development Commission’s outreach records for the previous three years, but withdrew the motion with agreement from Committee member Joseph Filippetti.
Committee member Ann Peabody moved and Committee member Robert Tuneski seconded approval of the Planning and Zoning FY 2026–27 budget totaling $699,654; the board approved the item 6-0-0. The board subsequently approved the Zoning Board of Appeals budget at $4,310, the Building Department budget at $355,537, Flood and Erosion Control at $1,104, and the Finance Department budget at $805,507; each of those motions passed 6-0-0.
Board members noted that updated projected revenue figures were not available before the hearing. The board agreed to take up revenue projections under new business at the regular Board of Finance meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Committee member Joseph Filippetti moved to adjourn at 8:25 p.m.; Committee member Robert Tuneski seconded and the motion passed 6-0-0. Recording secretary Rebecca Hall is listed in the minutes as the BOF recording secretary.
