The Town of Danvers Council on Aging board reported staffing and program updates at its Feb. 19 meeting, including two new hires and a planned registration rollout.
Matthew Mitchell, director of Senior and Social Services, said Juanita Simms started Feb. 18 as a part-time Activities Coordinator for Social Seniors. Per Diem van driver Allen Morris is scheduled to begin Feb. 24. The Activities Assistant position remains open, Mitchell said.
Staff member Liz demonstrated the new recreation registration system and said the registration page URL will be rec.us/Danvers; the link will be posted on the town Senior page once updated. Registration will go live March 2, 2026. DCOA staff will staff the lobby to help seniors create accounts and register on advertised dates in March.
On programming, Mitchell said the board is planning a "Forever Young" Seniors Prom at Danvers High School's Atrium from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., pending FDCOA approval. Lorene suggested the prom theme. The GemsTones will play 1950s music; Every Little Breeze will cater. The event will include a photo booth, 25 students will join seniors, and there will be no cost to attend.
