Council approves $99,470 emergency contract to repair storm drain damaged in suspected arson at Mountain Valley Park

Prescott Valley council authorized emergency repairs and a contract to restore the storm drainage system at Mountain Valley Park after fire damage that left sections of pipe melted and collapsed.
Town staff described the damaged run of plastic pipe and cave-ins discovered following a May 17 incident. "The system's piping is damaged... the pipe is completely gone," staff reported, showing camera photos of the collapse. Councilmember Franks characterized the incident as vandalism and arson and urged stepped-up enforcement and prevention measures at the park.
The police chief said officers conduct routine and extra patrols in the park daily, that school-resource officers helped identify juveniles responsible for recent graffiti, and that the department is adding license-plate-reader and camera notifications to detect after-hours activity.
Council voted to approve the contract with Earth Resources Corporation under the Prescott JOC contract for Mountain Valley Park storm drainage system repair in the amount of $99,469.60; the motion passed unanimously.
Staff said the repair work will remove and replace damaged pipe, restore subgrade and surface materials and add protective grading intended to reduce the risk of repeat damage.
