Town identifies harbor water-quality hotspots; geese management planned

Christopher Sanborn told the committee that water-quality concerns in the harbor focus on Frost Fish Brook, the stretch between Donegal Lane and Colgate Street, and a private pond in the Cherry Hill Industrial Park. He said runoff and a large geese population in the area are contributing to elevated bacteria levels in the Porter River and that the Town plans to include the private pond in its geese-management plan.
Sanborn said he is coordinating with Salem Sound Coastwatch and will consult with Mr. Henry, Director of Land Use and Community Services, to address these areas. The committee did not take formal action during the meeting but requested continued monitoring and follow-up.
