Staff reported the commission voted Nov. 18 to pursue admitting the two cities and that Marshalltown must confirm continued membership as part of the amendment. City staff cited a current tipping rate of roughly $64 per ton for Marshalltown and noted regional differences (Story County rates rising toward $96 per ton as other facilities close). The staff presentation said Marshall County currently has approximately 75 years of landfill capacity remaining.
Council discussed the regional implications and voted to approve the amendment by roll call.
