Safe Haven baby box delivered for installation in Wisconsin Rapids, county chair says

Wood County Board Chair Lance Plyml said a Safe Haven baby box intended for Wisconsin Rapids has arrived and is awaiting installation at the fire department.
Plyml told WFHR the initiative was driven by a city alderman who also sits on the county board, Jeff Penskover, with participation from the county health department and county board member Linda Casper. He said the box was paid for with donations.
"I think it's another nice addition to the city of Wisconsin Rapids and certainly benefits all the residents not only Wood County but the immediate area," Plyml said. He added that the unit is intended to provide a safe option for an infant in crisis and that the mayor would have further operational details in a later appearance.
The interview did not include the installation timeline, the exact fire station location, or procedural approvals; Plyml said Mayor Zacher would have additional specifics. Plyml and the host noted this Safe Haven box may be the northernmost in the state, but Plyml said he was not certain and suggested Reedsburg as the nearest comparable site to the south.
