Chief Banks presented the Hudson Police Department’s first Officer of the Year award to Officer Tyler Shom during the council meeting, praising Shom’s weekend-shift coverage, drug-case work and assistance to county and state law-enforcement partners.
Chief Banks told the council that Shom frequently works third shift and weekend patrols, “picking up that shift because it’s a weekend,” and that he is “very proactive” in researching drug cases and drug law. The chief listed several enforcement outcomes from 2025 as examples of Shom’s work, including multiple marijuana arrests (the chief cited six), two methamphetamine arrests, one cocaine arrest, multiple paraphernalia arrests and one seized firearm, as well as involvement in domestic cases and other incidents.
The chief said Shom assists the state patrol, county task forces and neighboring agencies and described him as “an asset to not just the city of Hudson, but to the county as a whole.” Council members and staff applauded the recognition and took photos of the award presentation.
The council’s award presentation was procedural and ceremonial; no formal policy action accompanied the honor. The meeting then continued into budget and routine agenda items.
