Hudson Mayor opened the council meeting by addressing recent complaints about missed garbage and recycling pickups and said the city is documenting service failures by contractor Blackhall Waste.
"We are documenting all the issues that we've had with them, so we can have some ground if moving forward we decide to…" the mayor said, adding the city may ask its attorney to review the contract if the contractor does not meet its obligations.
Council members and staff said crews and equipment shortages contributed to recent lapses, and that temporary measures — including managers personally collecting loads — have addressed some missed areas. The mayor told residents the contract limits the city's ability to unilaterally terminate service but that staff are compiling records of missed collections and communications so the city can pursue remedies at the contract's renewal or through legal review.
The council did not take a formal vote on the contract itself during the meeting. Officials urged residents to report missed pickups so staff can document individual incidents and to bear with the city while it works with the company to restore regular service.
The council flagged the issue as a high priority for follow-up and said staff would report back if legal or contractual steps become necessary.
