Board honors retirees and celebrates state tennis championship

The Dickenson County School Board took time in its June 24 meeting to recognize longtime employees who are resigning or retiring. Board members and staff named several departing employees, including Rita Bailey (16 years), Dwayne Edwards (23 years), Gay McCoy (35 years), David Robinette (37 years) and John Whitner (43 years). The presenter tallied those years and said the combined total of service leaving the division was 154 years.
Board and staff also recognized the girls' tennis team for an undefeated 22–0 season that included district and regional championships and a state title in Lynchburg. Coach Grant described the season, noted the heat challenges at the state finals, and thanked assistant coach JC Dingus and players including Kalista Compton. Board members and the audience applauded the retirees and the team.
