Board approves consolidated federal grant applications to streamline Title funding

The Dickenson County School Board voted to approve the division's first consolidated federal grant application, which combines multiple Title programs into a single submission for 2026–27.
Miss Deal explained the decision to submit one consolidated application covering Title I‑A, II‑A, IV‑A and V‑B to simplify administration. She said the consolidated grant will provide funds to operate Title I programs at the elementary level, support reading and math intervention and assessment programs, pay partial salaries and benefits for reading specialists and resource teachers, fund technology assistant time for maintenance and professional development, and buy family engagement materials and student take‑home learning packs.
Miss Deal also noted the Title III statewide consortium application remains separate because the district participates in a consortium; she described the Title III allocation as small but useful for English learner materials. The board approved the submissions so staff could meet the state's submission window and turn them in before the July 1 deadline.
