County staff presented structural problems, ongoing maintenance and utility costs and said the building no longer meets the fire district’s needs. Adam Woishar outlined options including negotiated sale, sealed bid, demolition or retention; he noted the county appraiser values the land at $2,270 and buildings at roughly $36,630. County counselor John Settle advised the board that K.S.A. 19‑2‑11 permits disposal of county property valued under $50,000 by public or private sale after notice.
Commissioners discussed local interest (the city of Turon and at least one private citizen had inquired) and agreed a sealed‑bid process would provide an open opportunity for any interested parties. The commission unanimously passed a motion finding the property is no longer required for county purposes and then moved to dispose of the site via sealed bids with statutory notice requirements.
What happens next: staff will publish the required legal notices and run a sealed‑bid process; if bids are received the board will follow procedures set in the notice and state statute for acceptance or rejection.
