The resolution (FIR0088‑26) was debated before the board. A member who raised concerns about timing said she did not agree the request should come mid‑fiscal year but would vote in favor to give the coroner’s office the resources to succeed: “I don’t agree that this is coming before us mid fiscal year, but I do want to give the coroner’s office the tools to to succeed,” the member said. The chair clarified that the additional position would be paid from coroner fee funds rather than the county’s general fund.
Several members sought assurances about oversight. Member Honig asked the coroner’s office to return in about a year to report on how the new position affected operations and caseloads: “It would be helpful… to come back like maybe in a year like a check‑in to see how this position has impacted the office,” Honig said.
On roll call the resolution passed with 11 yeas, 4 noes and 3 members absent. The board recorded the outcome as approved and moved on to the remainder of the agenda.
The next procedural step the board noted was for the coroner’s office to hire and onboard the approved position, after which members requested a follow‑up update be scheduled about the position’s impact and use of fee fund revenue.
