Floyd County Planning and Zoning elects chair in 3-2 vote, favors Thursday morning routine meetings

The Floyd County Planning and Zoning Commission on April 13 elected Dean Tjaden as Chair in a 3-2 roll call vote and unanimously confirmed Candi Brandau Larson as Vice Chair.
Guy Carpenter moved and Ben Rottinghaus seconded the nomination of Dean Tjaden for Chair. The roll call produced ayes from Ben Rottinghaus, Guy Carpenter and Dean Tjaden, and nays from Derek Straube and Candi Brandau Larson; the motion carried 3-2.
Derek Straube moved to nominate Candi Brandau Larson for Vice Chair; Brandau Larson seconded that motion. The roll call was unanimous in favor of Brandau Larson.
Earlier in the meeting the commission unanimously approved the agenda (motion by Ben Rottinghaus, second by Guy Carpenter) and approved the July 24, 2024 meeting minutes (motion by Guy Carpenter, second by Ben Rottinghaus). Chair Tjaden also welcomed Derek Straube as a new commission member.
Commissioners discussed regular meeting times and raised scheduling concerns: Rottinghaus said a 4:00 p.m. start conflicts with childcare obligations, and Straube, a teacher, noted potential future scheduling challenges with daytime meetings. Zoning Administrator Jessy Willadsen said remote attendance options can be made available when appropriate. The commission did not formally vote but expressed a general preference for holding routine meetings at 9:00 a.m. on Thursdays.
