CRA approves $150,000 downtown holiday lighting and events package

Fort Walton Beach’s Community Redevelopment Agency voted June 23 to fund a turnkey holiday‑lighting and activation package for downtown, approving staff’s recommendation to budget $150,000 for lights, nightly tree shows and related programming.
Alicia presented concept designs and a pricing summary: the Landing tree show and amphitheater lighting, pole swag and Miracle Strip Parkway lighting, a Yule Tide vendor market of small vendor booths, and a menorah for a pavilion. The company that made the proposal introduced itself to the board. Brad Nelson of City Lighting said the firm is locally owned and that ‘‘we’re truly excited about bringing this destination to Gulf Beach.’’
Staff described the proposal as turnkey: the vendor would install displays, provide nightly tree‑light shows beginning at 6 p.m., maintain equipment, store items off season and handle installation and takedown. The package presented totals roughly $149,347 and staff requested approval for the $150,000 line in next year’s budget. Ms. Riley moved to approve the full $150,000 and the board seconded and passed the motion.
The CRA noted the project is limited to downtown CRA boundaries and that CRA funds must be spent on CRA projects; staff said unspent CRA funds roll forward and must be expended on CRA projects within state reporting requirements.
Next step: staff will execute a purchase order or contract with the lighting vendor and begin order and installation planning for the fall installation period.
