CRA rejects Vandergriff Park gateway bids, plans rebid after protocol issues

The Fort Walton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency voted June 23 to reject three proposals for the Vandergriff Park gateway entrance after staff said internal procurement mistakes required rebidding.
Alicia, a CRA staff member, told the board the RFQ produced three submissions on June 4 but that ‘‘due to some miscommunication it’s been determined that the best course of action would be to reject these submissions and send them back out for bid.’’ Mr. Davis summarized the reason more bluntly: ‘‘We had some internal mistakes that were made, and we’re going to go back out for the Vandergriff Archway.’’
Resident Candace Tanner, who gave her address as 187 Brick Street, said she supported rebidding and asked for a brief recap; staff confirmed the rebid will be posted and returned to the board in August for public review.
The board approved the staff motion to reject the proposals and reissue the RFQ; the vote was recorded with one abstention. Board members and staff said the rebid will allow public presentation of proposed designs before a final award.
Next steps: staff will reissue the RFQ and return results to the CRA at the August meeting for public presentation and board consideration.
