On May 27 the Silver Spring Township Board of Supervisors approved Ordinance 2026‑04, which adds Chapter 20 to the Township Code to establish the position of Fire Chief and a Fire & Rescue Services advisory board.
Supervisor David R. Lenker asked whether official job descriptions, credentials and minimum requirements for the position would be provided; staff indicated that information will be supplied. Lenker emphasized his support for local fire companies and for ensuring appropriate funding through the fire tax allocation.
On a Brown/Potteiger motion the ordinance was adopted. The ordinance recognizes and authorizes the Township’s fire companies and designates a Fire Chief as the administrator of Fire & Rescue Services. The Board requested that staff provide written job descriptions and credential requirements for the position following adoption.
The ordinance was adopted as a local code amendment; further administrative steps (job posting, application process and any credential verifications) will follow Township personnel procedures.
