Le Sueur-Henderson board unanimously renews expiring referendum revenue authorization

The Le Sueur-Henderson School District board on Feb. 2 adopted a resolution to renew an expiring referendum revenue authorization under Minnesota Statutes section 126C.17, subdivision 9b, keeping the per-pupil amount the same and extending the authorization for a 10-year term beginning with taxes payable 2028.
The board read the statutory background required by subdivision 9b, including that a renewal is permitted without an election provided the expiring referendum has not previously been renewed under the same subdivision and the per-pupil amount remains unchanged. The resolution directs the district clerk to submit a copy of the adopted resolution to the commissioner of education and the county auditor of each county in which the district is located.
Board members voted by roll call and the resolution passed unanimously. The resolution becomes effective 60 days after adoption, per the cited statute. The board did not change the per-pupil amount and said the additional revenue will continue to be used to finance school operations.
No public testimony was recorded during the segment devoted to the renewal; board members indicated they had previously discussed the item at a work session. The board chair said the levy is one of the lower ones in the area and that retaining the revenue pool was necessary for operations given current budget pressures.
