Trustees noted that policies may affect different grade levels differently, with elementary implementation easier than middle and high school.
District staff said they could prepare proposed language and gather feedback from families and staff. The board asked administration to hold policy meetings and collect community input ahead of a July work session so the board could consider proposed revisions and proceed with readings. Several trustees stressed the need to align staff expectations so enforcement is consistent across classrooms.
No formal policy change was adopted at the June 1 meeting. Board members indicated a preference for convening at least one policy session and recommended collecting targeted feedback from parents and staff before a formal vote.
Next steps include scheduling the policy meeting(s) and presenting data and proposed language at a work session prior to any readings or votes.
