Pocomoke City formally swore in Lacy Merritt as the city's new city clerk during the June 18 Mayor and Council meeting.
Council members announced that former clerk Melinda Stafford had left for another opportunity and offered thanks for her service. Mayor Todd Nock administered the oath of office; Merritt recited the oath and was welcomed with applause.
Council members and staff spoke in favor of Merritt's appointment, noting her experience working for the city over the past several years. Merritt will assume the duties of city clerk immediately.
