Simsbury Aging and Disability Commission previews senior programs, community events and town budget schedule

The Simsbury Aging and Disability Commission met April 14 and heard a Board of Selectmen update from liaison Diana Yeisley on the towns budget calendar and several grant applications, followed by reports on upcoming senior-center programs and community events.
Yeisley said a public hearing on the town budget is scheduled for April 21 at 6:00 P.M. at Town Hall and that the town expects a budget referendum in mid-to-late May. She listed grant applications the town has submitted, including improvements to Eno Memorial Halls HVAC and roof, a Tom Roy property dam-related project, and a proposed splash pad at the Memorial Pool; the town also applied as an intervener in the Nod Road Solar Project siting process to remain informed of developments.
Senior Center Coordinator Kathleen Marschall previewed the May/June newsletter and upcoming programs: Social Connections on May 3, a Firehouse Breakfast on May 21, a Pride Picnic on June 1 and a tie-dye event on June 18. She announced a new "Bingocize" program developed with the Farmington Valley Health Department and a walking group starting Wednesday mornings, and thanked AARP volunteers for tax assistance.
Commissioners reviewed additional community events and outreach work: a Sensory Movie showing of "Elio" on April 25; Summer Fun Fest scheduled for July 18 at First Church; Souper Thursday on May 14 with volunteers requested; and repeated dates for "Coffee with Commissioners." Jan Beatty reported on Age-Friendly Community collaborations and confirmed an Aging-in-Place Expo for Sept. 18 at the library with Amy Woodman, R.D., as a confirmed presenter. Planning for an intergenerational technology program involving Jennifer Seiderer and Simsbury High student Eli Seiderer was also discussed.
Reminders included completing Sexual Harassment Prevention Training and submitting certificates to Town HR. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 P.M.; the commission will next meet May 19, 2026 at 6:00 P.M. at Eno Memorial Hall, Youth Room.
